In Ciprian Muresan’s video Choose, a Romanian boy mixes Coke and Pepsi into the same glass. In defiance of the old taste test marketing campaign, he gleefully drinks the brown concoction. In a country like Romania, where consumer goods are relatively new (since the fall of communism) drinking cola is a political act. What other product represents American style capitalism in the face of the former Soviet Block (or to America itself) than cola. Weather you work in retail or run the country the cola in the bottle is always the same.(something Warhol made clear with his Coke-a-Cola prints). If you don’t like cola, you have a variety of other soft-drinks to choose form. Muresan’s boy in the video calls this into question. Putting both colas into the same class is in contradiction to the title of the piece, there is no choice to be made.
